A tape display inside a trade show booth from Saint-Gobain Tape Solutions.

With changing demands in power supply and more sustainable energy production, the electro-mechanical industry is developing new solutions to meet current and future needs. The rapid growth in electric mobility is another driver for change, fostering innovative concepts in energy supply like smart grids and stationary energy storage. When the industry came together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of CWIEME Berlin 2022, these topics were in focus and our team was there to present new high-end tapes designed to meet even the toughest electro-mechanical requirements.

Especially our full portfolio of Kapton®, Nomex® and glass cloth tapes caught the attention of booth visitors. The high mechanical, chemical, temperature and electrical resistance of our latest product developments allow higher power density of electric motors, enhanced longevity and protection. Two electric motor samples showing our materials in use helped to demonstrate the impact modern tapes can have in designing next-level electric motors with better performance and more compact design. It was a great chance for visitors and our teams to learn from each other about innovative applications, the challenges today’s engineers are facing, and the unique values specifically designed tapes can offer.

The booth was not only frequented by visitors interested in electric motor, stator and rotator applications of all sizes – from electric vehicles to large wind turbine motors. It also attracted engineers designing today’s transformers and generators, where UL specified and oil compatibility tested solutions are needed to ensure reliable performance under pressure. The strong demand for our full portfolio of UL 510 recognized tapes with thermal capabilities up to class N (200°C) and proven oil compatibility shows that there is a lot going on in the specification driven electro-mechanical market. And as each application has different requirements that even the largest offering can hardly fulfill in an ideal way, our willingness and capabilities to customize solutions was highly appreciated during the show.
